Setting Up a Scheduled Restart for Your Server in Pterodactyl

Last updated on Feb 13, 2025

Scheduled restarts help maintain server performance, reduce lag, and clear temporary issues by refreshing your game server at specific intervals. Using Pterodactyl’s built-in scheduling system, you can automate restarts without needing manual intervention.

This guide will walk you through creating a scheduled restart, setting the interval, and ensuring uptime stability using VolticHost Game Panel.

📌 Prerequisites

1️⃣ Creating a New Scheduled Restart

  1. Log in to VolticHost Game Panel.

  2. Click on your game server.

  3. Navigate to the Schedules tab.

  4. Click Create New Schedule.

  5. Set the schedule name (e.g., Nightly Restart).

  6. Choose a time interval (e.g., every 12 hours, daily at 4 AM).

  7. Click Create Schedule.

Your scheduled restart is now created!

2️⃣ Adding a Restart Command to the Schedule

  1. Under the created schedule, click New Task.

  2. Choose Send Power Action as the task type.

  3. Set the action to Restart Server.

  4. Click Create Task.

Your server will now restart automatically at the scheduled time!

3️⃣ Configuring Warnings Before Restart

To notify players before a restart, you can schedule chat announcements:

  1. Click New Task under the same schedule.

  2. Select Send Command as the task type.

  3. Enter a warning message command (varies by game, e.g., for Minecraft or Rust):

say ⚠️ Server restart in 5 minutes! Save your progress.

  4. Set the execution time 5 minutes before the restart task.

  5. Click Create Task.

Players will now receive a restart warning in chat!

4️⃣ Ensuring Proper Server Restarts

For smooth restarts, make sure:

  • Your server saves data automatically before restarting.

  • Critical processes like database connections are properly closed.

  • The restart schedule does not conflict with scheduled backups or updates.

Your scheduled restart is now optimized for stability!

5️⃣ Restart the Server to Apply Changes

  1. Navigate to the Console tab in VolticHost Game Panel.

  2. Click Stop to shut down the server.

  3. Wait a few seconds, then click Start to ensure the restart schedule is applied.

Your server is now set to restart automatically!
