Managing Server Backups in Pterodactyl

Regularly backing up your game server is essential to prevent data loss, restore files after crashes, and roll back changes if needed. Pterodactyl’s built-in backup system allows you to create, manage, and restore backups easily.

This guide will walk you through creating, restoring, and managing backups using VolticHost Game Panel.

📌 Prerequisites

1️⃣ Creating a Manual Backup

  1. Log in to VolticHost Game Panel.

  2. Click on your game server.

  3. Navigate to the Backups tab.

  4. Click Create Backup.

  5. Enter a name for the backup (e.g., Pre-Update Backup).

  6. (Optional) Enable Ignore Suspended Files to exclude unnecessary files.

  7. Click Start Backup and wait for it to complete.

✅ Your manual backup has been successfully created!

2️⃣ Restoring a Backup

If you need to restore a previous backup:

  1. Navigate to the Backups tab in VolticHost Game Panel.

  2. Find the backup you want to restore.

  3. Click the Restore Backup button.

  4. Confirm the restoration process.

  5. Wait for the restoration to complete.

✅ Your server has been restored to the selected backup!

3️⃣ Automating Scheduled Backups

To create automatic scheduled backups:

  1. Go to the Schedules tab in VolticHost Game Panel.

  2. Click Create New Schedule.

  3. Set a name (e.g., Nightly Backup) and set a time interval (daily, weekly).

  4. Click New Task, select Backup Server, and click Create Task.

  5. Save the schedule.

4️⃣ Managing Backup Storage

Backups take up storage space. To delete old backups:

  1. Navigate to the Backups tab.

  2. Locate outdated or unnecessary backups.

  3. Click Delete Backup to free up space.

5️⃣ Restart the Server After Restoring a Backup

  1. Navigate to the Console tab in VolticHost Game Panel.

  2. Click Stop to shut down the server.

  3. Wait a few seconds, then click Start to ensure the backup is applied.
